Often times patients are nervous or afraid to ask their dentist questions about their oral health. It’s important to ask questions if you are unsure of something or you are experiencing any problems, so your dentist can address them right away. Here are some of the top question’s patients should ask their dentist.

    hdr_doctors

    1. How often should I get a dental checkup?

Your dental health varies from person to person, but the American Dental Association recommends adult patients should visit a dentist once or twice a year even if their mouth is in excellent condition. This allows the patient to get their teeth professionally cleaned by a hygienist on a regular basis and ensures that any potential problems are identified right away.

    2. What is tooth sensitivity and why do I have it?

Patients with tooth sensitivity feel pain when they consume anything from hot to cold and anything sweet or acidic. The reason they are feeling sensitivity is because they have thin tooth enamel. When a patient has thin tooth enamel, they have less protection on their tooth which exposes them to extreme temperatures. Having sensitive teeth can be the result of receding gums, tooth grinding during sleep, chipped or fractured teeth, tooth whitening, orthodontics and fillings. If you are experiencing any pain or sensitivity at all let your dentist know and they can help reduce your sensitivity.

    3. What are the best ways to practice good oral hygiene at home?

Good oral hygiene at home is extremely important. It’s crucial to brush your teeth at least twice a day and to floss once a day. Here are some tips to become an oral hygiene expert in the comfort of your own home. The first step is to use products that contain fluoride to help fight against cavities. The second step is to limit your snacks that contain a large amount of sugar. Step three is to eat a well-balanced diet of fruits and vegetables. The final and most important step is to avoid any form of tobacco. These steps will improve your oral hygiene along with your overall health.

    4. Why should I have dental x-rays taken?

Your dentist takes a full set of dental x-rays early into the doctor-patient relationship. This helps to examine and record the patient’s mouth’s hidden areas for any issues that need comparing against changes that can occur between appointments. Most patients have bite wing x-rays every year and a full mouth series every 4 to 5 years. However, patients with a higher risk for dental problems may need them every 6 to 18 months.

    5. How can I improve the whiteness of my teeth?

When you have a beautiful white smile, it gives you an incredible boost of confidence. Most patients have some form of discoloration from over the years of drinking coffee, wine, using tobacco and even different forms of medication. There are many ways to improve the whiteness of your teeth such as, professional in office teeth whitening, composite bonding or the application of veneers to the affected teeth, which provides a more permanent solution.

If you are unhappy with your current smile, then you are most likely researching cosmetic dentistry procedures. At Philly Dentistry, we offer numerous cosmetic treatments to fix any problems you may be suffering with. Have you ever thought about getting porcelain veneers to fix your smile? Here are the six most common signs that porcelain veneers are the right choice for you.

    veneers & whitening

    1. Do you have chipped, cracked or broken teeth?
There are a few options to fix problems like broken or chipped teeth. Porcelain veneers are a great option to fix this common dental problem. Our accomplished doctors will customize your veneers to match perfectly with your natural teeth to give you that perfect smile you’ve always wanted.

    2. Are you unhappy with your smile?
If you’re reading this right now there’s a good chance, you’re unhappy with your smile. Whether it’s crooked, chipped, gap, or stained teeth to name a few common problems our talented cosmetic dentists will get you smiling again! All you need to do to fix your smile is schedule a free new patient consultation so our doctors can give you an exam to see which cosmetic procedure would work best with your specific smile.

    3. Do you have a gap or gaps between your teeth?
Having gaps big or small in between your teeth can leave you feeling embarrassed while covering your mouth every time you smile. No one wants to feel that way and to fix these gaps you can choose to get porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers give you a natural looking smile that will make you proud to smile again. At your appointment our doctors will evaluate your smile to determine if veneers are the best option for you, over other treatments like tooth bonding and Invisalign to close your gaps.

    4. Do you have extremely stained or discolored teeth?
Many patients try over-the-counter whitening methods without much success. Some patients report some slight changes in the whiteness of their teeth, but nothing too dramatic. When your teeth are extremely stained, sometimes even in office professional whitening will not make much of a difference. For patients like this, we recommend porcelain veneers. Many patients get veneers for a whiter, more uniform smile to get completely rid of any type of stains.

    5. Are your teeth misaligned, uneven, or irregularly shaped?
If you have some minor alignment issues with your teeth than veneers can resolve the problem easily. For more extreme alignment issues we recommend getting Invisalign to straighten your teeth. For patients who have uneven or irregularly shaped teeth, veneers can be the best option. Our doctors will work with you to customize the size, shape and color of your veneers to give you that smile you’ve always wanted.

    6. Are your teeth worn down?
Over time your teeth can get worn down typically from teeth grinding or clenching, known as bruxism. When you grind or clench on a regular basis, the tops of your teeth can become flat and dull over time. This can result in more dental problems if not handled properly. For any patient who have worn down their teeth, porcelain veneers can restore the appearance of your teeth and provide more stability for your dental health.

So, give us a call at 215-568-6222 and schedule your free new patient consultation with one of our excellent doctors who have over a combined 60 years of experience in dentistry! As a current patient or new patient you may be wondering if professional teeth whitening works for everyone? If your teeth are stained from drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes, medications, or just poor oral hygiene then professional teeth whitening can most likely whiten your teeth quickly and successfully.
However, there are some rare cases in which teeth whitening is not the best option for the health of your teeth. One of our accomplished doctors will exam your teeth before any whitening procedure begins to make sure you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. In some cases patients teeth are just naturally dull in color which has nothing to do with stains or aging. If you think this may be you, don’t worry at all we offer many different options to whiten your teeth like porcelain veneers. Another case may be that you were born with very thin tooth enamel which can make your teeth yellow even if you have great oral hygiene and brush and floss daily. In these cases we work with the patient to make sure they are given the best and healthiest option to improve their smile.

Don’t hesitate to get that smile you deserve! This offer is only valid for the month of May so give us a call today at 215-568-6222 and let’s get that smile bright and healthy for the summer months ahead!
